I’m writing this after witnessing one of the historic moment in the history Indian Football.
I’ve been a football fan for now more than a decade, but I haven’t taken much keen interest in ISL or Indian Football for that matter. Maybe just like many other football fans who support football clubs across the world, I haven’t been inclined to watch Indian football. Be it lack of winning tournaments, not much Media coverage & many such reasons.
But today something magical happened. I just came across an image in the afternoon stating that today Indian team is in the SAFF (SOUTH Asian Football Federation) finals and asking every Indian to keep the streaming on, so at least the sponsors would get their money and Indian football would get some sort of future sponsorship as well. (I’ll share that image as well).
So being a football fan and an Indian, I thought this is the least I could do for the team and I did.
But this is not where the journey begins. I didn’t watch the entire match until, the last 5 extra mins of Full Time.
From those 5 mins to extra 30 mins and finally to penalty shoot out, I felt as if I had been following their journey all along. Each, goal scoring chance missed, every shot defended, it felt as if I’m playing out there. It’s MY TEAM. MY COUNTRY playing for the country’s name. I was so much into it.
Honestly speaking this was the first time I had ever watched an Indian football match, but it didn’t look like a first timer. My Kaka (Uncle) asked me, do you even know the player names of the entire team? & the truth was, I didn’t. I only knew two names from the team:
1. Goalkeeper Gurpreet
2. The G. O. A. T: Sunil Chetri
Rest I had no clue who they were.
That final penalty kick saved by Gurpreet had that adrenaline rush in me just like all the other Indians witnessing that event. Something like watching war movies and the Indian army wins the war, that kind of adrenaline rush and that kind of Love for India.
Today Indian Football can add my name in the list of supporters and I’m sure, many people like me, must’ve started following Instagram pages of Indian Football, Sunil Chetri, etc ๐
